Saint Paul de Vence

Saint Paul is a thirty minute drive from the centre of Nice and well worth a visit, if you fancy a break from city life. It is a picturesque, medieval village, perched on a hill in the middle of typical Provencal countryside.
The village is surrounded by a circular wall, with an arched entrance, through which you get your first glimpse of the unbelievably quaint streets of Saint Paul. They are narrow and winding, with little alley ways of flower filled doorways and windows. At every turn, you come across a tiny square, a fountain or a beautiful view over the surrounding countryside.
This is paradise for art lovers. Many artists have settled here to show and sell their work, but even if you don’t want to buy, it's fascinating just looking around. There are plenty of hotels, cafes and restaurants here, including the famous Hotel de la Colombe d'Or.
We went midweek in March and there were still plenty of tourists filling the streets. Goodness only knows what it must be like in August.
Seriously pretty, though.
