Cimiez

The area of Cimiez is about two km from the centre of Nice. You'll need a taxi or bus to get there. The grassy park on the top of the hill has a lovely olive orchard, where people picnic, exercise their dogs and where children play. There is a small café and public toilets. The air is fresh and clear up here and it makes a welcome change form the hustle and bustle of the city.

The grounds host the Matisse museum and a roman amphitheatre. Each year, in August, Cimiez has an open air jazz festival, which must be fantastic in such a great setting. The paths through the olive grove are named after jazz artists such as Miles Davis, Charlie Parker etc.

Just beyond the olive grove is a monastery with formal gardens, which we really enjoyed. It is a cool, peaceful place with pleasant views down to the city.
