The high walls, narrow streets and covered archways provide welcome relief from the sun at this pretty medieval village. The cobbled streets are often stepped and usually thronging with visitors - we were lucky to catch this one whilst it was not teeming!
As you can see, it is still a residential village: over 300 people actually live in St Paul de Vence, although their numbers swell considerably with the day-tripping visitors who arrive each year - over 2.5 million of them!
We would recommend this trip, while you are on the Cote D'Azur. Buses leave for here ever half hour (catch the TAM, number 400 bus) and the journey takes about an hour from Nice. Alternatively, if you hire a car, you can get here in half the time.
